2020 Topps 582 Montgomery Club Set #4 Review and Checklist
The fourth set of the 2020 Topps 582 Montgomery Club membership year was released in June.
The 20 card set followed a similar pattern of prior releases in that it combined a mix of rookies, veterans, and retired superstars. This time, the design was inspired by a 1961 Dice Game test issue! Each card features a black and white portrait photo surrounded by a white border. The player’s name, position, and team are centered on a badge at the bottom of the card. I really like the simple design, and I find myself wondering more about this “dice game”. It would have been awesome if the card backs told more about the game itself.
One of the things I appreciate most about the checklist of this set is that it uses a “new” mix of players. The rookies featured are not the “big names” that we often see. Luzardo, Solak, Gallen, and Kay are the players featured. One thing I do find interesting is that the RC logo on these cards are the only color present in the entire set. The retired superstars are Nolan Ryan (on the Rangers), Mark McGwire (on the Cardinals), Johnny Bench, Joe Mauer, Edgar Martinez, George Brett, and Derek Jeter.
