If you have a variety of interests, Upper Deck Goodwin Champions is a product for you!

The Goodwin Champions name dates back to the 1800’s. It was first released by Goodwin and Company which was the parent company for a couple other tobacco products that pre-war collectors may be familiar with. Goodwin also made Old Judge and Gypsy Queen cigarettes!

The Goodwin Champions release contains a variety of athletes and individuals who excel in whatever they do. It also includes a variety of natural wonders. From professional and amateur sports, to TV or Movie acting, to jungle animals, collectors can find some unique cards to collect!

2020 Upper Deck Goodwin Champions

Hobby Boxes of 2020 Goodwin Champions contain 20 packs, with 5 cards in each pack. Each box should have three hits which include the possibility of Autographs, Relic cards, manufactured patches or 3-D Lenticular cards. You can usually still find hobby boxes on eBay if you want to check them out yourself!

Base Set

The base set is made up of 100 cards with 50 additional Splash of Color short prints. A variety of parallels are available, which can add a chase element and also a bit of confusion.

There are Royal Blue parallels which were only available via ePack, Blank Backs which were Unannounced, Turquoise which are only available in Blaster boxes, and Printing Plates 1/1. In addition, there are Black and White, Lightning Storm, and 10th Anniversary parallels which only contain a portion of the checklist.

There are also a couple more ePack specific photo variations and 3-D Lenticular variations.

Mini tobacco card sized inserts/parallels cover the first 100 cards.

Inserts

Goudy is the most common insert found inside packs. There are 50 cards in the Goudy set and collectors should be find 1:4 hobby packs and 1:6 blaster packs. A mini parallel exists for each Goudy card.

Fanimation is another 9 card insert set, but it is very limited. These cards fall in 1:2,540 packs! They carry a pretty hefty price on the secondary market. You can check them out here on eBay!

The Hits

Unique hits are another feature that attracts collectors to Goodwin.

Autographs from the likes of Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Alex Morgan (ebay link), Joe Burrow, Lebron James, and Jasson Dominguez (ebay link) are possible!

Relics add a ton of variety to the release with clothing and jersey swatches, stamps and coins, manufactured patches, sketch booklets, and more. They cover the themes of space, history, sports, and literature!

I enjoy products like Upper Deck’s Goodwin and the similar Allen & Ginter set from Topps (eBay link). I wish Upper Deck had the ability to use real uniforms and logos for the athletes they include, but even without them they do a decent job of choosing attractive images. The variety of base cards, parallels, hits and autos make for a pretty fun set to collect!
