It's Not Me, It's You!

WaxPackHero.com is now early in its second year of existence, and I’m having as much fun as ever creating content for collectors to enjoy!

I’ve tried to focus on topics that would have been helpful for me to know when I re-entered the hobby back in 2015.  So much had changed since the late 90’s! I had no idea about all the new sets, manufacturer exclusivity, online retailers, etc, and I really had to dig online and have tons of conversations to educate myself.

I wanted to begin creating a resource that collectors could go to where they could learn about cards, both new and old.  I wanted to help hobbyists build their collections as efficiently as possible.  Hopefully, at the end of the day, readers will see there are as many ways to collect as there are things to collect!

So far, most of the articles have focused on reviewing sets, general industry discussion, and the occasional “how to”.  While I typically get a good response on the set reviews, the handful of “how to” posts have generated the most interest.  In fact, even a year after its original publish date, the Definitive Guide to Shipping a Baseball Card in a PWE is still the most viewed article every month.

Choose or Lose 2019

At its core, I aim for the site to be written by a collector, for a collector, so I want to know what you want to read about! I recently put out a Twitter poll asking what topics you were interested in hearing more about in the coming months. I included the three topics above, and I added in the “highlight another collector” concept as another option.

The results show you want to see more “How To” articles!

“How to’s” and “Highlight a Collector” received the highest number of votes, with each of them getting around 1/3 of the votes.  I’d love to hear any additional suggestions you have in the comments below.

In the meantime, I’m working out my content plans for the next few months and will be trying to take this feedback into account.  I’ve got a couple different ideas on some eBay instructional posts, and of course there will continue to be new releases.  I’ve got some oddball insert sets to write about, and I may even do a time study to fully measure the time I spend in a month from my selling related activities.  I’ll also be reaching out to some of you to see if you’d be interested in being a featured collector at some point!

Wrapping it Up

Traffic to the site has more than doubled over the first few months of 2019, and I’d love to keep the momentum going!  That’s only going to happen if I am able to keep putting out articles that you all find helpful.  I’ve really enjoyed getting to know several of you in the collecting community, and I hope to build even more relationships in the years to come.  Those conversations have helped shape how I collect and the focus of the blog, so please continue to let me know what you think!

If you enjoy the site, then I’d appreciate you telling your friends!

If you’re new to the site, reading about my Goals for 2019 and my Collecting Origin Story may help you get to know me!
