2019 Topps Heritage Minor League Set Review and Box Break
2019 Topps Heritage Minors extends the vintage look and feel to the minor leagues. This year, the set uses the 1970 Topps design, and delivers a 220 card set for collectors to complete. Cards 1-200 are considered the base set, and cards 201-220 are short prints and fall approximately 1:6 packs.
This hobby only release comes in 18 count boxes, with each pack containing 8 cards. You can pick them up on eBay, and for a short time they were available direct on Topps.com. Each base card also has a variety of parallels at different levels of scarcity if building “rainbows” is your thing. Blue /99, Black /50, Flip Stock (1:108 packs), Gold /15, and Red 1/1 are the options.
One of my favorite parts about Heritage are the variations. They provide a unique twist and a ton of added value that many collectors overlook. However, the photo/error style variations seem to be scaled back a bit in Heritage Minors this year. There are 10 “missing name error” variations as well as 10 image variations, but they are very rare with the pack odds for each being 1:486 packs. It looks like the “facsimile auto” and “color swap” variations we have seen in the past are gone for 2019.
There are only two insert sets included in the 2019 offering. Fantastic Feats and Fresh on the Scene provide a total of 50 additional cards of your favorite MiLB prospects. The Topps Super box toppers could also be considered an insert set. The oversized “super” cards feature 20 different subjects and if you are lucky, you’ll find an autographed version in your box.
Each hobby box also promises two hits. One Autograph and one relic card are hidden inside packs. From box breaks shared online, it seems it is not uncommon for boxes to contain a bonus auto. For what it’s worth, my three boxes delivered the promised two hits per box.
Box Break
Like I just said, I opened 3 boxes and you can see one of those below.
Heritage Minors is one of my favorite prospect sets each year, and I was happy with my break. My Seth Beer auto /99 and my flip stock parallel were a couple of my favorites. Some of these Minor League team names are just classic. I’d love to hear what MiLB names you like.
I’ll be tracking down the additional short prints I need to complete my set on Sportlots over the next couple months, and I have plenty of extra cards to help other collectors complete their sets.
