The Details
Upper Deck Allure is one of the company’s two widely distributed chrome based hockey card products. A Hobby Box contains 8 packs with 8 cards in each pack. Over the last couple years, the product has become known for its variety of colored parallels which provides the opportunity for collectors to build a “rainbow” of their favorite players.
This year there are 11 different parallels to chose from.
Black Rainbow – (1:4 packs, RC – 1:8)
Red Rainbow – (1:6 packs, RC – 1:12)
Orange Slice Die-Cut – (1:12 packs, RC – 1:24)
Steel – (1:120 packs, RC – 1:240)
Pink Leopard – (1:200 packs, RC – 1:400)
Number – /199
Green Rainbow Die-Cut – /99
Blue Line – /35
Purple Diamonds – /10
Printing Plates
Golden Treasures – 1/1
In addition, there is a Rainbow insert set where each player has five different cards with each card having a color transition in the background. If you collect all five and lay them side by side, you will see the full rainbow spectrum from red to violet. You can build an actual rainbow!
I started by talking about the parallels, but lets talk about the set itself! The base set includes 150 cards. The first 100 are made up of veterans, and the final 50 are rookies and come one per pack. That means they are slightly short printed, but not in a way that is overly noticeable.
The checklist does a nice job covering the top players of the game as well as pretty much all of the popular rookies including Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond. This is a set that only has current players. You won’t find any retired players in Allure which is something I kind of like about it. Not every product has to go after the legends.
In addition to the base cards and their respective parallels, there are also six insert sets which have a variety of scarcity levels. They range from 1:4 packs for the Rainbow inserts to 1:18 for the Quartz Rookies. Here’s a sample of the inserts in my box.
Finally, lets talk about autographs. Each hobby box contains one auto, and while autos can also be found in retail configurations, the odds are much, much longer. The checklist is long with over 100 different possible player autographs to chase.

Final Thoughts
I think Allure is a great addition to the UD lineup. The three Flagship series will always be my recommendation if you are only going to chase one hockey product. However if you want to add a chrome based release to your collection, then I think Allure is a great option. A reasonable sized base set, a good selection of rookies, inserts, and autographs, and the ability to chase a rainbow all provide options for fans to collect the way that they enjoy.
