6-7, Six Seven, Six Seeevvven.
If there is someone under the age of 18 in your life, you’ve been exposed to the 6-7 trend. But what does it mean? Where did it come from?
Well, I’m here to answer to those questions!
The Origins
So where did the 6-7 trend come from?
This is an edited version of the original Matvi Griblat video.
It seems to have started with a social media post from Matvii Grinblat in December 2024. He made a post showing some LaMelo Ball highlights and expressed the opinion that LaMelo moves like someone who is 6’1” or 6’2”, but is actually 6’7”.
In his video edit he spliced in a clip from the Skrilla song “Doot Doot” where he says 6 7.
Right around the same time, a clip from Taylen Kinney, a high school basketball standout rating a Starbucks drink started to go viral. In the video he rated the drink a 6 or a 7 and made the hand gesture which is now connected to the meme.
The combination of those two things started to take off, more people made their own edits and their own videos with the hand gesture, and the viral trend grew to the cultural powerhouse it is today.
The trend has even found its way into the hobby.
In the 2025-26 Topps NBA card set, they showed they are willing to have some fun and made Lamelo card number……. 67! I appreciate that level of detail in set structure and design. You can pick up the base card or one of the more limited parallels on eBay via this link.
At this point, the meme has spread well beyond its original connection to Lamelo’s height, and if you ask most kids why they say it or where it came from, most probably won’t know the origin story.
There is a whole subcategory of 6-7 merch available on eBay if you are looking for gift ideas, but I’m kind of surprise that the Ball family doesn’t have a more prominent line of their own. History has shown LaMelo’s father LaVar is not shy about leveraging his sons’ fame via their Big Baller Brand products.
Wrapping it Up
So what does 6-7 mean? Nothing really. Do you have to be worried that it is demonic? LOL, No. It’s just a fun trend.
The non-stop 6-7ing may still drive you crazy for the foreseeable future, but now at least you know a little more about its origins and its connection to LaMelo Ball!
