1970s Audio Sports Baseball Records

In the early 1970s, Audio Sports released a series of books and records which allowed fans to hear their favorite players teach them the fundamentals of baseball.

During the summer of 2022, I picked up a pretty nice collection. It was mainly sealed wax from the late 80s and early 90s with several monster boxes of hockey singles. However, inside one cardboard box was a stack of square paper books. They were black, and were titled with a variety of baseball actions or positions. Running, Hitting, Shortstop, Pitching and Catching were the titles splashed across the top of the books in big, white block letters.

When I opened them, I found a thin plastic record inside.

Did they still play? What was on them?

Well fortunately for me, I had picked up a turntable earlier in the summer.

There isn’t a ton of information about these, but there appears to be six different records in the series. From the copyright dates, they appear to have been released between 1971-1973. A couple of mine came sealed in a clear plastic bag.

The titles are as follows:

Running - Maury Wills

Hitting - Hank Aaron

Shortstop - Jim Fregosi

Pitching - Don Drysdale

Catching - Bill Freehan

Outfield - Willie Mays

If you’ve got any more info about these, I’d love to add it to the post. Where were they sold? How much did they originally cost? Are there even more players featured?

If you know more about these records, let me know!
