The 1993 Pinnacle Home Run Club was released as a 48 card box set and printed with Dufex technology.
In the early 90’s, the number of baseball card brands and products was exploding. Major League Marketing was the company behind Sportlics, and Score. In 1992, they released Pinnacle which was intended to be a “higher end” product. In 1993, they expanded the Pinnacle brand even more by adding several different box sets to the product mix.
My favorite of these box sets is the Home Run Club!
My appreciation of comes from both the Dufex finish and the checklist which is stacked with some of my favorite players of the era. Maybe others have a better description, but I say Dufex cards are a cross between a standard card and a chromium card. They have more of a metallic shimmery finish which I find really attractive.
The checklist is printed on the back of the outer cardboard sleeve which surrounded the padded clamshell case the set was packaged in. This allowed collectors to know exactly who they would find inside. Barry Bonds, Ken Griffey Jr., Ryne Sandberg, Bo Jackson, and Frank Thomas were the primary draws for me, but there are plenty of other stars and young prospects included.
As you might expect, the retail prices of these are pretty affordable. Sets can be picked up on eBay for about $15, and singles can be found on COMC and Sportlots between $.25 and $1.50. If you haven’t seen one of these cards in person, I’d recommend tracking one down!
