In late August 2019, the fourth set from the 2019 Topps 582 Montgomery Club was released. This time, the design was inspired by the 1951 Topps Ringside boxing set.
This is another of the smaller 20 card sets, and it features a mix of current stars, rookies, and a few Hall of Famers for good measure. The full checklist is listed below, but the Kris Bryant, Juan Soto, and Ronald Acuna Jr. cards are a few of my favorites. The color combinations of the player photos and backgrounds really stand out for those three in my opinion.
I had never heard of the Ringside Boxing set until now. Being exposed to new sets is one of the things I appreciate about the designs from the Montgomery Club. I’ve learned several pieces of Topps history as I researched the designs used for these sets. The original set of 96 cards came in two series, and for me just reinforces the fact that Topps was already getting involved in Trading cards prior to the well known 1952 baseball release. For many people, Topps “started” in 1952, but that just isn’t the case!
Check out the video below to see every card in this 20 card set.
Check out my posts on the other three sets in the club below:
Set 1 was released in December 2018 and included an autographed card.
Set 2 was a sticker set, and came out in April.
Set 3 came out in June, and was inspired by a set of 1972 posters. It also included an autograph.
Ronald Acuna Jr.
