2019 Topps 582 Montgomery Club Set #5 Set Review and Checklist
The final package of the 2019 Topps 582 Montgomery Club membership year was delivered in early November and contained three items for members to add to their collections.
Mike Trout “Thank You” Card
First up was a special Mike Trout card thanking members for being a part of the 1st year of the 582 Montgomery Club. On the back was a checklist of the various sets members received over the course of the year.
“Member’s Choice” 20 card set w/auto
Earlier in the year, members got to vote on the design and checklist of one of the member sets, and Set 5 was where those member votes came to life. There were three designs and 100 players to choose from, and ultimately the top 20 vote getters are listed below. This set also included an autographed card from a pretty strong auto checklist.
I got a Max Scherzer, but other members got signatures from the likes of Ken Griffey Jr., Jeter, Frank Thomas, Cal Ripken Jr. along with several other big names.
Sealed Factory Box Set
Finally, each member received a Factory Sealed Series 1 and 2 box set. It has a special branded 582 Montgomery Club box, and each card is stamped with the club logo. I’m keeping mine sealed, but other members have broken their sets open and are selling the singles on eBay. Complete sealed sets were selling for $150-$200 early on.

Membership Wrap-up
As I wrote in my initial post on the Topps 582 Montgomery club, I was cautiously optimistic about what this club would deliver. I mean we knew the list of products, but we had no idea what they would look like in hand, no idea what kind of value they would have, and therefore dropping $199 on a membership seemed kind of risky.
Well I’m glad I took that risk. I don’t think I could have been much happier with the products Topps delivered. My biggest complaint was not with the products themselves, but instead it was with the lack of communication between Topps and the club members. There could have been so much more “Storytelling” about the “lost designs” that were chosen, and some kind of newsletter or regular interaction could have made this something really special. Heck, even a small reception/event at the National would have been a real cool benefit.
The first set was covered in the link above, and here are the links to each of the other sets during the 2019 Club year!
Set 2 was a sticker set, and came out in April.
Set 3 came out in June, and was inspired by a set of 1972 posters. It also included an autograph.
Set 4 was modeled after the 1951 Ringside Boxing set
